As you can see for the most part, the performances of the HD5770 in CF and a single HD5870 are REALLY close. But, usually, the HD5870 will pull ahead slightly. However, in HAWX, you can see that the HD5770s in CF actually beat both the HD4870 and the HD4870x2 (lol) at 1920x1200. But I think this could be a driver problem.
Since they perform really close, I would just go for the single HD5870. Dual-GPU setups can be problematic at times.
