This is the exact specs description of the two cards in two different desktops I'm choosing between, so which would you recommend out of these two cards? (to run games and multimedia work)
--------------------------------------…
Radeon HD5770
* 1 GB memory
* I/O Ports: HDMI, DisplayPort connector and 2 DVI (and VGA using included DVI-to-VGA adapter)
* This card occupies a single PCI Express x16 slot, and covers the adjacent slot.
--------------------------------------…
or
--------------------------------------…
nVidia GeForce GTX 260 (Double bracket)
* 1.8 GB memory
* I/O Ports: HDMI (through dongle only). 2 DVI-I (single-link and dual-link) - (and VGA using included DVI-to-VGA adapter)
--------------------------------------…
Both are running on pretty much identical setups of:
Core-i7-860 (L) 2.8 GHz (95W)
Socket LGA1156
Chipset:
Intel H57 Express
Motherboard:
Manufacturer: MSI
Motherboard Name: MS-7613
HP/Compaq motherboard name: Iona-GL8E
Power supply
460W
RAM
8GB DDR3
I read the GTX runs faster, but the radeon runs cooler and less power, apparently, and the GTX runs on DirectX 10 and the radeon is on DX 11, if that makes a difference in the future etc
Anyways thnx for any info ppl.|||GTX 260 would still be hard to beat;

However, price of the GTX 260 is quite close to that of the new GTX 460 DX11 card. GTX 460 is currently the best bang for your buck in the ~$200 price.|||ok. i dont know what hes talking about with Windows 7 64bit. im running two computers both with Windows 7 64bit and both with 5770's and that has never been a problem. in your case i think i would go for the 5770. Granted the 260 is a bit faster but from what i hear the 5770 slowely starts to make ground on it at higher resolutions. like 1920x1080. so its not much of a difference.
im also a but worries about your power supply. i know someone with a 500w that couldnt even power a 260. different things may have varied but still your running an I7 with 8Gb of Ram.
if you look at the 260 it recommends at least a 500w power supply. i think this makes the choice clear

But I don't recommend getting it if you are running a 64-bit version of Windows 7 (crash, crash, crash!) and if you are using a Monitor that requires the resolution of 1920x1080 or higher (screen tearing and problems!) although you can still get it if you want. DirectX 11 is a big difference to 10 as it has more features like: tessellation which allows more polygons to be shown (gives more details but it lags a lot on radeon cards).
5770 is currently the 2nd best budget graphics card out there (the 1st is GeForce GTX 460), and it does a pretty good job at that price.
5770 is very power efficient, cooler and quiter!
------------------------
It's still yes.
It doesn't really matter if you do have the 64-bit OS or HD monitor, but it just has a bit more problems, but still works pretty well when it doesn't show up. Most of the problems aren't really big.
So far the only issues I had:
Screen Tearing (especially when I'm logging in and out (fade effect shows some))
BSOD (the drivers gave me that twice so far (My computer is 1 month and 8 days old))
Screen goes grey (another driver crash but I only had it once, probably fixed in the newer driver updates)
I just wished the GTX 460 came out earlier... I could've got that and look where it's ranked on that benchmark!!! :(
Ok how about this, try getting the GTX 460 (1GB Model) and a better power supply (650W or higher), it cost a little more but it's worth it.|||Hi there. Been outta the loop with computer parts for half a year, so the new radeon 5xxx series are still new to me.
But alas nothing too major.
Yes generally the Gtx performance should run a little faster, but personally with the rig you got i'd get the 5770.
For one, i don't know how game enthusiast you are but with a build like that i'd be a little awe'd if you wern't.
I choose the 5770 as because your right about temps, power usage, and dx11. But i forget but i think the radeons go on gddr5, if that matters to you.
So what im getting at, just the get the newer technology, might as well in my opinion and save your rig some temps and wattage. Unless im mistaken by how big a diff the gtx 260 vs 5770 is, if its no big a diff go with the radeon.
P.S, running on an i7 860 and 8gb of ram, and a high end gpu, sir make sure your 460w psu can handle it based off by just saying that with no specs.
