Is my AMD Athlon II x2 @ 3.0 Ghz bottle necking my ATI Radeon HD 5770?
Is my AMD Athlon II x2 @ 3.0 Ghz bottle necking my ATI Radeon HD 5770? I don't think im getting all the fps in games that are in the reviews for the card in its benchmarks on several websites.|||Yes definitely. If in a review stating that a 5770 should be receiving more then you are getting at the moment its a bottleneck. Try overclocking your CPU or possibly getting a quad core, since they've become so cheap and common chance are you should be able to get one.|||I don't know what the hell the other guy is talking about but an Athlon II X2 at 3.0GHz is NOT going to bottleneck any vidcard below a Radeon HD 5850. (I'm not even sure it would bottleneck THAT). A 3.0GHz CPU, regardless of brand is damn fast for gaming. If you're unhappy with the speed of your HD 5770 it's probably because you expected too much of it. The HD 5770 consistently loses in performance tests against the HD 4870 and therefore is between the 4850 and 4870 in performance, putting it close to the GTS 250. You probably saw "Radeon 5000 series" and expected it to beat all the 4800 series cards. It doesn't work that way. It's the 2nd digit in the model # that says how potent the card is. the 1st digit only tells you what generation (usually die size) that it is. For instance, a Radeon HD 3870 easily beats a Radeon HD 4670 in performance. The 8 is greater than the 6. In this case, the 8 is greater than the 7. I hope this helps.|||Most likely, yes.|||is hell on fire.
