Ddr2 vs ddr3 with a HD 5770?
So I have a hd 5770/ corsair 400cx psu/ 2gb 800mhz ddr2 ram/ MSI mobo/ 500gb hdd/ AMD athlon dual core 7750 2.7ghz. If i step up to ddr3 2gb, how much performance will i gain?|||It's not so much a question of DDR2 vs. DDR3 technology, but rather the speed at which the modules run in concert with your motherboard. You didn't give the model number of your mobo so I can't give a good answer. DDR2 at 1066MHz clock rate has the exact same maximum transfer rate as does DDR3-1066. Only if your motherboard supports DDR3 at clock rates higher than 1066MHz will you realize any difference. If you're looking for an improvement in frame rates for gaming, the difference would be minimal going from DDR2-800 or -1066 to DDR3-1333 or even -1600. Upgrading the video card will make much more of a difference in gaming performance.|||Uh, not much. Besides, you would need to get a motherboard that's compatible with DDR3 RAM.
