If you want to play games at max or close to max settings (though it depends on your resolution, a higher resolution puts more stress on the video card), I wouldn't recommend anything below the 5770.|||Yes they are. Midrange typically refers to cards in the $100-$200 range like the GeForce 9800GT, GTS 250, GTX 260, Radeon 4770, 4830, 4850, 5750, 5770 and 4890. The GTX 275 might be the highest-end card which could be called midrange.

Cards between the $50-$90 mark are usually considered entry-level gaming cards. The GTS 220, Radeon 4650 and 4670, GeForce 9600GT etc. The new GT240 and Radeon 5670 are the upper end of entry-level cards, with performance quite close to the lower-midrange cards.

When you get above $300, those are high-end cards.|||All depends on how you define "mid-range". The 5770 will run all games at decent frame rates (30+ fps). There are just a handful of better cards, including the 5850 - which is definitely high end.
